After several days of a nasty cough and traveling and not much sleep we decided that a day off was in order for Travis and had him stay home from co-op. We had visions of a calm, quiet, rainy day with Travis doing a lot of reading while I did the normal Monday preschoolish stuff with the little boys (oh, excuse me, Ben asked to be called a "middle boy" now)... Anyway, I either underestimated the level of care that would be required by our sweet, precious little four-legged friend or I overestimated my ability to provide that care while caring for all of my two-legged friends.
Lets just say that while I had not intended to keep Travis home on our first week day with Chesty, I'm pretty glad it worked out that way. I still maintain that he's an exceptionally sweet and good-natured puppy, but he's a puppy. While Travis certainly handled the lion's share of the work today I think he would agree that it was a team effort between the two of us.
Towards the end of the day when Chesty was settling down in his crate for one of his many naps, Travis looked over and saw that he was sleeping. He quickly reminded everyone to be quiet not to wake him and then turned to me and said, "I have done nothing all day. I didn't go to co-op, I didn't do any of the school I'd planned to do, and I'm exhausted. Now I know why you look forward to rest and bedtime every day." I laughed with him and thought to myself how many times I've uttered the exact same sentence to Jimmy at the end of a day.
Even though he's a lot of work I think they are becoming fast friends.
Fast friends joy...
