A week without my big kids brought with it a few good reminders.
1) Just because I've only got half of my kids doesn't mean my job is only half as tough. It was very good for me to be reminded of how physically demanding it is when all the people are little! I realized that most of my daily energy goes to the littles, even when everyone is home. Big kids are a piece of cake!
2) It's really fun to pull out our little kid family time books and spend that time geared to their level. Those books brought back a flood of memories from the days when our people were all so small and it was good for me to be reminded of how fast that time has flown by.
3) Our little kids are hilarious and entertaining and there was never a moment during the week where I was bored.... and yet, I found that I really miss the fun and "mature" chatter and discussions with our big kids. They are just plain fun to have around.
4) Big kids are much busier than little kids. Ben and Jack are perfectly content to play with blocks, sit with books, stay quarantined in the playroom while I shower...etc, without the influence of bigger kids doing funner things. That comes in handy. : )
5) It's harder to leave the house with three little people than it is with six when there are a few older ones involved in the process. We aren't going out much this week!
6) I don't like to have my chicks all spread out and was so glad to gather them all back into the nest today.
Welcome home, big kids joy....
