This Mothers Day I am humbled by the many blessings that I enjoy. I have the greatest husband in the world whose babies I get to mother. He willingly does the daddy jobs (and does them well!) so that I can do the mommy jobs. I have the six awesomest kids that ever existed. They make me laugh, they keep me hopping, they bring me to my knees in prayer and they keep me humble. : ) I have a wonderful mom who adores my babies and has taken good care of us this week, a sweet mother-in-law who raised an amazing son (and also adores my babies!), and a precious sister and friends who challenge and encourage me in my role as wife and mommy.

As if all of that weren't enough, my sweet big kids each compiled a Mommy Book for me where they will add letters, pictures and poems for me each holiday, and my brave, generous husband volunteered to keep our five biggest kids and our three little nieces while I went out for a fancy lunch with a few of my favorite moms.

My cup truly overflows with blessings.

Today was a family work day. From car washing to weed pulling, mulch spreading to car-seat moving, there was a little something for everyone. And there might have been a water fight for good measure.

Last summer a very special friend gave Caroline a ring that had belonged to her as a child. Caroline cherished that ring and felt like a really big girl wearing it. One night a few months ago, she was playing with the ring on her finger and it slipped off and fell into the van somewhere. She started crying and I assured her that I would find it as soon as we got home. I looked for a while to no avail, but comforted her by saying that I was certain that we'd find it once it was light outside. Jimmy and I both devoted a considerable amount of time to searching for that special ring and were almost as sad as she was that it seemed to be lost.
Last week, in an effort to get the van sold, we decided to have it cleaned. My first thought was that the ring would surely be vacuumed up and gone forever and then that thought  was pretty much confirmed once I saw how clean it was! It was cleaner than it had been since the day we drove it off the lot.
Well, imagine our surprise when Maw Maw came in the house with a ring she'd found while bringing groceries in from the van! It was just sitting there, right in the back, in plain view.
I took it right to Caroline and her whole face lit up when she saw it. She said, "I prayed for it and God gave it to me!"

An answered prayer for my girl joy...

One of the really great things about having a large family is that by the time you get down to the last babies the first babies are old enough to really enjoy them. The three big kids have been excited about the new baby since day one and that excitement has turned into pure love now that he's actually here. Sweet little man hardly gets a moment of peace (but I think he kind of likes it that way).

Elias had his one-week newborn check up with our family doctor this morning. Everything we already knew to be true was confirmed for us - he's perfect! : ) And thanks to the fact that he has hardly stopped eating since his birth, he's already back up to his birth weight. Sam and Caroline came along for his first adventure out of the house and kept me aware of his status throughout the whole ride. He wasn't convinced right away, but warmed up to the carseat pretty quickly. I'd call his first outing a success!
